Hmm.. If only I had $35,800...

August 2nd is supposedly the day the US defaults on our debts.  Well not officially 'defaults' since Geithner has said the debts to creditors and interest payments will still be made, but the nation will just have 40% less to spend on silly things like social security, military pay, and such.

Also by that point, our perfect AAA credit rating will be knocked down by 2 seperate ratings agencies which will mean interest payments spike and as a result, borrowing costs i.e. interest rates on homes, cars, education, etc. for consumers rises.

But don't feel too glum if this happens because the following day you can celebrate the President's 50th birthday with him...

From Chicago Sun-Times:  "President Obama returns to Chicago on Aug. 3 to mark his 50th birthday with fund-raisers at the Aragon Ballroom, with tickets ranging from $50 a person to $35,800 per couple, which includes VIP seating at a "Birthday Concert" where celebs will be performing and a dinner with the president. (Obama's 50th birthday is Aug. 4.)"

"For $10,000, a person gets a souvenir photo with Obama at a reception and preferred seating at the concert. For $1,000 a person gets seated in a "premium section" with a "hosted bar." A general admission ticket is $200...  events are a benefit for the Obama Victory Fund 2012, a joint Obama 2012 re-election campaign/Democratic National Committee fund."
