"I'm not concerned about the very poor"

Republican candidate Mitt Romney is honest.

I don't mean its really as a positive- its just the truth...

As truthful and sincere a comment as a politician of either party could ever make short of someone saying 'I care nothing of the voters once I win election'

 He doesn't care.  Obama doesn't care either.  Its just the President is smart or savvy enough to never say it outright.  But its true.  He doesn't.  No politician does, because you probably could count on two hands the number of Presidents, Senators, Governors or Congresspeople in the last 30years who grew up in dire poverty and difficult circumstance, and yet made it where they are today.  

Now the full Romney quote was this:  

"I'm not concerned about the very poor.  We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich. They're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling." (AP)

That's so very clever... let's break it down sentence by sentence...

The first sentence we talked about-- Romney doesn't care for the very poor.  Absolutely true.  He really doesn't care about the moderately poor or minimum wage class person either.  But then, in all honesty, who does, right?  Unless you are poor yourself, or remember what it was like to be under the poverty line.  The lower middle class?  Ehh.. not really.. Statistically, they don't really donate much to political campaigns and when so, its heavily Democrat.  So Romney wouldn't care about them either.

Next sentence- referencing the safety net.  Not sure what 'net' he speaks of?  Does he mean food stamps which allow you to buy shit like chocolate cookies and Cheetoes but can't use it to buy warm meals from supermarket like a rotisserie chicken?  Does Romney mean welfare which is just barely enough to get by, and which JP Morgan Chase profits in the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars annually by having exclusive rights to print out the welfare cards?  Or maybe social security, which is being gutted by a diminished worker pool and dirty politician tricks like payroll tax rebates so workers can keep an extra $20/wk while diminishing Social Security by at least $24 billion in 2011 alone?

Next sentence- fixing the safety net.  Romney may be honest but he's not trustworthy.  Do I really expect the party that calls such safety nets "entitlements" derisively and who would love to roll back the clock to pre-1930s Depression when it comes to such safeguards to 'fix it'?!

Next 2 sentences- Romney says he doesn't care about the rich- they can take care of themselves.  Does anyone really believe that?  Is Goldman Sachs Romney's #1 corporate donor because they don't want to be taken care of?  (Goldman is also Obama's #1 donor so tells you all you need to know this upcoming election)  Are wealthy people writing checks to Romney's campaign so their needs will be ignored and dismissed?  Get real!

Last sentence:  Romney is concerned about the 'heart of America'. Awww..  that's very sweet of him.  He calls those people the 90-95% of Americans.  That's a very clever way to twist the 99% vs 1% Occupy movement argument.  So let's see.. based on that percentage, the super wealthy are still 1% so that means the very poor only represent at best 4-9% of the nation.  Sorry Mittens, your math is skewed.  

It is a statistical Fact that 1 in 6 Americans are getting food stamps.   That means around 17% of the population.  Then when you add in all the Americans on welfare and Social Security due to age or disability, you're looking at over 1 in 4 Americans in need of Federal handout from the government to survive.   That's over 25%  And most sure ain't middle-class.

So really, if Romney was as honest with his percentages as he was with his non-compassion for the poor, he's concerned about 50.1%.  Specifically the 50.1% of American voters who will get Romney elected by embracing corporate tax breaks, lower taxes for wealthy, trickle-down economic policies and admire that Romney made his fortune as a ruthless Wall St. capitalist  rather than a creator of real products or services.

~  This posting should in No Way imply or assume an endorsement for President Obama for reelection.   No, no, no, no.... At this moment, if choosing between Romney and Obama in a general election, yours truly would rather simply stay home and not vote.

In a Perfect World- political primaries

The other day I wrote a post entitled "In a Perfect World- State of the Union" where I laid out the type of speech I would have given if President specific to curtailing and controlling Wall Street so they knew who was Truly boss...

So I thought I would continue that theme though take a step back from the first-person 'What I would I' and instead reflect on how the current political landscape for the 2012 would be in a perfect world...

1)  There would be at least 1 Republican candidate running for President with morals, ethics and decency who actually kept their word to some degree.  Recently a poll found 33% of registered Republicans wish there was different candidate than the four left before them.. Couldn't agree more.

Here are the 4 candidates in brief:

Mitt Romney- Obscenely filthy rich (made his money by buying companies, firing the workers then breaking up to smaller pieces to turn into great profit) yet only paid 15% taxes last year, has millions in offshore accounts in the Caymans, is the true inspiration for Obamacare which is not a good thing if courting conservative votes, and is a Mormon; a cult religion that believes all black people are descendants of Lucifer, among other absurdities.

Newt Gingrich - Numerous ethics violations as House Speaker which forced him to resign, had numerous marital indiscretions including an affair with a student while he was a Professor whom he later married and is still currently with, was given a $500k credit at Cartier with zero percent interest on repayment- something no 'regular' customer received, and received over $1 million as a "consultant" for Freddie/Fannie Mae.

Rick Santorum - Basically, the Tea Party's "bitch"-- completely bought and paid for by the ultra-conservative Koch Bros who believe essentially government should not tax corporations or impose any regulations- just simply step back and allow them to make as much profit as humanly possible

Ron Paul-  Talks a good game but is really full of shit.  He has served in the US Congress for over 18years and in spite of all his anti-Fed rhetoric has never Once proposed legislation to end or at least curb the power of the Fed.  Not once.  He also supports legalization of all drugs-- not just pot but hard substances like cocaine and heroin, wants a minimalist government without any regulations, and pushes forth an unrealistic Isolationist foreign policy where every nation who is our ally is to fend for themselves economically and militarily. He likes pointing out for instance that Israel receives US $3 billlion/yr in foreign aid yet conveniently forgets that the US gives an Exact equal amount to Egypt as part of the 1978 Camp David Accord, as well as provides financial aid to at least 2 dozen other nations.

So in a perfect world there would be at least one truly good person running on the Republican side who wasn't corrupt, immoral, didn't believe in cults or was an outright charlatan.

2) Equally desirable, in a perfect world there would be a REAL Democrat running in the primaries vs Obama that either forced the President to confront 3 years of being an outright Liar to his constituents; the millions upon millions of loyal Democrats who believed his 'hope' and 'change' con.    Someone to push.. prod... outright Force Obama to truly care about the middle and lower classes instead of continual lip service.

The candidate--someone like Sen. Bernie Sanders or Rep Dennis Kucinich, may not beat Obama for nomination but would eviscerate him for wasting the first year of office while Democrats controlled Congress, on his vanity project, Obamacare instead of a job creation bill or FDR-like recovery stimulus program.  Obama would be held feet to the fire for his catering and back-bending to Wall St, allowing the Fed to spend Trillions simply to prop up the market on the backs of future generations,  Guantanamo still being open, capitulating to the Republicans on extending the Bush tax cuts, on and on...
